Home/Accessibility

Home IQ Inspections, LLC Accessibility statement.

We want everyone who is building a home to be able to read this site, book an inspection and use the report, whatever device or assistive technology they rely on. This page says what we do toward that, where we know we fall short, and how to reach us if something is in your way.

Our commitment.

Home IQ Inspections is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, the standard most widely used for public websites, and we are working toward the additions in WCAG 2.2. We are a small company and the site is maintained in-house, so we treat accessibility as ongoing work rather than a finished state. This statement covers the website itself. Inspection reports are delivered as PDF files through our inspection software provider's portal, and those files may not be fully tagged for screen readers; see Known limitations below.

What the site does

  • Keyboard use. Every page, menu, dropdown and link can be reached and operated from the keyboard, with a visible focus outline. The menu closes with the Escape key.
  • Screen readers. Pages use proper headings, landmarks and lists, and navigation regions are labeled. Every photograph carries a written description of what it shows, including the construction details in the deficiency library and the articles.
  • Contrast and size. Text is set against backgrounds that meet or exceed the AA contrast ratio. The green booking buttons use dark text rather than white for that reason. The site scales with your browser's text size without breaking.
  • Layout. Pages reflow to a single column on phones and small screens with no horizontal scrolling, and nothing on the site relies on hovering alone: anything that opens on hover also opens on keyboard focus.
  • Motion. The homepage slideshow has a pause button, can be stepped manually on larger screens, and does not auto-advance at all for visitors whose device is set to reduce motion. No content flashes.
  • Plain language. Content is written in short, direct sentences, with construction terms explained where they first appear.

Known limitations

We would rather tell you about these than have you discover them.

  • The online scheduler. Booking runs in an embedded window provided by Hive Inspect, a third-party service, with payment handled by a third-party processor. We do not control their accessibility. If it does not work for you, call or text us and we will book the inspection for you by phone.
  • The 360° panorama. The interactive image on the 360° imaging article is dragged with a mouse or a finger. It is a demonstration, not required for anything, and the article explains in text what the image shows.
  • Inspection reports. Reports are delivered as PDF files generated by Hive Inspect, our inspection software, and those files may not be fully tagged for screen readers. If you need a report in another form, ask, and we will walk you through it on a call.
  • Sample report pages. These are screenshots of real report pages. Each one has a written description of its contents, and the same information is explained in the surrounding text.
  • Maps. The service area map is a drawing. The cities and regions it shows are also listed in text on the same page.

Content in another form

If any part of this site or a report is difficult for you to use, we will provide the information another way: over the phone, in a plain-text email, or in Spanish. Inspections and walkthrough calls are available in English and Spanish, and reports can be delivered in Spanish.
